There is some feminism thrown in keeping with the current trend. The action is plenty and fastpaced. There is a Hulk like creature and used quite effectively and they got the ending right.
The story has some ties from the first Scorpion king movie and more than once it reminded me of that movie. I missed The Rock in this one, I was imagining him in many of the scenes, but that does not mean the lead actor is bad, he is quite good, but he does not have the screen presence of Dwayne Johnson.

Plot Summary. Plot Keywords. Parents Guide. She informs Mathayus and then prophesies that when the moonlight reaches Memnon's palace, the King on High will become the invincible Scorpion King, and Memnon believes himself to be the one destined to become the Scorpion King.
Furthermore, she informs Mathayus that if he faces Memnon, he will likely die, but Mathayus assures her that he will make his own destiny and they sleep together.
The next morning, however, Cassandra returns to Memnon in order to stall and possibly kill him. Mathayus, with help from Balthazar, Arpid, Philos and the army of rebels, launches an all-out assault on Memnon's stronghold, facing Memnon personally before he can kill Cassandra.
Balthazar confronts and kills Takmet, avenging Pheron, and takes on the full force of Memnon's forces alone. The battle rages on until Mathayus is shot by a guard, as predicted by Cassandra.
As Memnon takes his place in the House of Scorpio to become the Scorpion King, Cassandra kills the guard while Mathayus retrieves his bow, pulls the arrow out of his shoulder and uses it to shoot the exhausted Memnon, sending him off the edge of the roof.
At the same time, Philos and Arpid use the explosive powder to destroy the palace's foundation stone, bringing down the bulk of Memnon's forces.
Memnon is consumed by the flames as he falls to his death. With the battle over, the remnants of Memnon's army bow before Mathayus, who by their law is their new king, the Scorpion King.
In the aftermath, Mathayus and Balthazar share a good-natured farewell as the latter returns to his own kingdom. Cassandra tells Mathayus that she sees a period of peace and prosperity coming, but warns him that it will not last forever.
Undeterred, Mathayus decides that they will make their own destiny. The soundtrack to The Scorpion King was released on 26 March , just before the film was released on 19 April.
It is filled with various bands performing either previous released tracks or their B-sides. The album has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
The Scorpion King was released on DVD on October 1 The film spawned two video games: The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian for the Nintendo GameCube and the PlayStation 2 which served as a prequel to the film's events; and a sequel, The Scorpion King: Sword of Osiris , for the Game Boy Advance , in which Cassandra is abducted by the ruthless sorcerer Menthu and his lackey, the witch Isis not to be confused with Queen Isis from the film , prompting Mathayus to undergo a quest to uncover the legendary Sword of Osiris and use it to defeat Menthu and Isis once and for all and rescue Cassandra.
The sites' critical consensus states, "Action adventure doesn't get much cheesier than The Scorpion King.
Roger Ebert , film critic of the Chicago Sun-Times , gave the film 3 out of 4 stars, writing "Here is a movie that embraces its goofiness like a Get Out of Jail Free card.
The plot is recycled out of previous recycling jobs, the special effects are bad enough that you can grin at them, and the dialogue sounds like the pre-Pyramidal desert warriors are channeling a Fox sitcom For its target audience, looking for a few laughs, martial arts and stuff that blows up real good, it will be exactly what they expected.
It has high energy, the action never stops, the dialogue knows it's funny, and The Rock has the authority to play the role and the fortitude to keep a straight face.
I expect him to become a durable action star. Club gave the film a mildly positive review, calling it "prototypical summer-movie fare, designed to be consumed, enjoyed, and forgotten all at once.
Following the film's release, there were initial plans for a sequel with Johnson to return as Mathayus and go up against a new villain, Sargon, but these plans eventually fell through and the project was shelved.
A direct-to-video prequel, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior , was released in with Michael Copon as Mathayus and Randy Couture as Sargon.
Firstly, there were many great things about The Scorpion King. The Rock played a real good part and he certainly has a bright future in the acting industry.
The beautiful Kelly Hu showed that she can be good on the big screen and the ever reliable Michael Clarke Duncan played a great part as well.
The action scenes were hard hitting and brutal and the scenery was fantastic as well. The only thing that spoiled the film for me was the fact that it was not an original idea.
The plot has been done in so many movies before. Sometimes in the movie world, certain plots are churned out time and time again and you just get that feeling of deja vu.
The plot for this film has been done in dozens of movies and countless TV shows. I saw this film with a friend of mine and he really really enjoyed it.
However, he usually likes cop movies and hasn't seen many fantasy adventure movies so watching this was a first for him. I have seen dozens of movies like this and whilst it was very good, I did get that feeling of familiarity.
But anyway, I still recommend it. The fight scenes are awesome and there are some funny scenes in it. And again, the Rock does have a future as an actor.
I just hope that his next project is a fresh idea. I'm going to really be awkward here but there's three other things that bothered me about this movie.
There was a short scene with an Indian elephant in. Did ancient Egypt have elephants? I'm no wildlife expert but I didn't think they did.
Secondly, wasn't it amazing that there was such a variety of accents in the film. Lastly, gunpowder in ancient Egypt? No way! I'm just getting old though-watch and enjoy!
The only pictorial evidence of his existence is the so-called Scorpion Macehead , which was found in the Main deposit by archeologists James E.
Quibell and Frederick W. Green in a temple at Nekhen Hierakonpolis during the dig season of — The stratigraphy of this macehead was lost due to the methods of its excavators, but its style seems to date it to the very end of the Predynastic Period.
The Scorpion Macehead depicts a single, large figure wearing the White Crown of Upper Egypt. He holds a hoe , which has been interpreted as a ritual either involving the pharaoh ceremonially cutting the first furrow in the fields, or opening the dikes to flood them.
The use and placement of the iconography is similar to the depiction of the pharaoh Narmer on the obverse side of the Narmer Palette. The king is preceded by servants, the first in row seems to throw seeds from a basket into the freshly hacked ground.
A second servant his depiction is partially damaged wears a huge bundle of grain sheafs, which strengthens the interpretation of a seed sowing ceremony, possibly connected to the Sed festival or a founding ceremony.
Maybe Scorpion II was the founder of Nekhen or Buto , which would explain why the macehead was found in Hierakonpolis. Above the servants, a row of standard bearers, who carry the same standards as seen on the Narmer palette, precede the king.
Below the royal servants, a road and a landscape with people and houses is preserved. Behind the king on the left side two fan bearers follow the king.
Left of the fan bearer, bundles of papyrus groves are depicted. Behind these, in the upper section, a group of dancers and a priest are visible; the priest guards a Repw.
The lower section is lost due to damage. The festive parade looks into the opposite direction of the king and his standard bearers; an outstretched complete view reveals that both processions meet each other in the center of the whole macehead relief scene.
In this very center, scholars such as K. Baumgärtel and T. Wilkinson believe that they see the tiny traces of the feet and the coil of the Red Crown ; a second golden rosette is clearly visible.
The traces strengthen the presumption that the scene on the Scorpion macehead once contained the depiction of a second figure of the king, wearing the Red Crown of Lower Egypt.
In this case, the Scorpion macehead would show king Scorpion II as the ruler of the whole of Egypt. The uppermost scene on the macehead shows a row of divine standards.
Each standard is surmounted by a god Set , Min and Nemty , for example or nome crest. The original number of standards is unknown, but it is clearly visible that one half shows hanged lapwings , the other shows hanged hunting bows.
Both standard rows face each other. Lapwings stood for 'Lower Egyptian folks' or 'common folks' and the bows stood for 'folk of archers', pointing to hostile Asian tribes.
Their hanging is interpreted as evidence that Scorpion II began the attacks on Lower Egypt and Egyptian enemies at the border lands, which eventually resulted in Narmer's victory and unification of the country.
Numerous small ivory tags showing the depiction of a scorpion were found. They come from Abydos, Minshat Abu Omar and Tarkhan.
